Bendtner To Go Back Season End

Nicklas Bendtner will challenge for a first team place at Arsenal next season, according to Arsène Wenger.

The tall 19-year-old striker has spent the season on loan at Birmingham. His 11 goals have helped them to the top of the Championship table.

Bendtner is one of a number of players farmed out by Wenger this term. The manager accepts it will be difficult to accommodate them next season should they all return. However he expects Bendtner to compete with the likes of Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie up front.

"He will come back and challenge for a first team place next season,” said Wenger. “I've spoken to him about that. He is 18, strong and has a big future. He knows we want him back and he's happy about that.

"There is a lot of competition, a lot of good young players but if they are good enough then they will come through.

“We have Bendtner. Fabrice Muamba might stay one more year at Birmingham. Seb Larsson and Anthony Stokes have signed permanently while Lupoli has gone to Fiorentina because he was free. But Kerrea Gilbert might come back and Alex Song will.

“It is not a problem of too many young players but it is a problem to get them in, find the right mixture and still be efficient in the team.”

Then there is the generation below that. A record crowd of 38,000 watched Steve Bould’s Under-18s beat Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Youth Cup Semi-Final first leg at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

“That tells you about the size of the Club and the fan base we have," said Wenger. "We have extended in recent years. I feel our supporters are keen to look at the future. They want to discover something special."

As much as I'd love to keep him, I was disapointed in him today. He didn't seem to get the "get stuck in" kind of match that it was.

In Niks defence he has been sick in bed untill yesterday and hasn't trained since Tuesday.

Really? It might have been better to start with Jerome then, who really looked to put himself about when he came on. I think Jerome's (slowly) improving.

i agree with that , if he is not 100%he should'nt have started.

jerome would have been my choice as well.

Arsenal are welcome to him, if he puts the same work rate in for them as he does for us, can't see Wenger giving him much time, he gets knocked off the ball by a feather, some people may think he's talented, thats a matter of opinion, give me Muamba anyday.

i think he exspecting to go back to arsenal in jan but did'nt get the chance so i think he's sulking a bit.

i think he's got the talent to do well in football but i dont think he has the right atitude , we will see what happens when he goes back in the summer.

If I had my way he wouldnt play for Blues again this season. As far as talent goes there is no-one better in the division, but he simply doesnt put in the effort. That is not opinion it is fact. Only once today did he track back with any real purpose.

I would perm any two from Vine, Campbell, Jerome and Forssell. With those four we stand a good chance of going up. With Bendtner we are playing with 10 and a half men.

Good luck to you Niklas. Alas you were expected at the age of 18 to be Pele, Maradona and Norman Hunter rolled into one by some.

For a player that supposedly dosent track back I thought he worked very hard today and played the team game up and down the pitch especially when we went down to 10 men.

A bit like Thierry Henry i suppose. Surely as a forward it is not his job to track back but to keep the opposition defence in their own half. He does get back for the corners but as for chasing back when they are on the attack surely that is the job of our defence and midfield.

I think many supporters are a bit harsh on Bentner. He put a lot of effort in today and because he doesnt run around like a headless chicken he gets criticised.

One other point. He is only 18.

for all the talent bendtner has, i would rather see jerome and vine working there backsides off for the team rather than bendtner's tricks and flicks, he isn't a typical blues player we like to see the physical side to the game, thats why evryone likes muamba

I'm with you fully.

I too would rather start Jerome, who works his socks off and has pace which we lack.

How often does Bentdner fail to pursue the second or third oppertunity.

Good luck to the kid, we do appreciate the time he spent but more effort is needed.

Maybe this would urge bruce to go out and sign nugent if we go up then, gawd what strikers we will have, everyone forgets jerome is 19 and what a player he is going to be, vine is only 23/24 too.

And with that attitude is it a surprise we have never won anything?

Thierry Henry and Christiano Ronaldo would not last ten minutes down St Andy's - we're too obsessed with making sure our players are all ex-brickie workhorses.

When we are in the position of Man U and Arsenal, then we would welcome that type of play, unfortunately we a fighting a promotion battle and can't afford too much 'pretty football'

I think Bendtner has been 'cruising' for months. He was a different player at the start of the season - but now he's 'proved himself' (at this level at least) he's taken his foot off the gas. He knows he's not staying after season-end, he has no real affinity with Blues, he's an arrogant and petulant so-and-so... I think it's a gamble to play him at all. Let's use the strikers who have some long-term affinity with the club and AREN'T guaranteed premiership football next season like Bendtner is - we might see more effort!!

But why do we assume that 'pretty football' = losing and 'ugly' football = winning? Aren't Sundelrnad scaring the hell out of everyone now by being an attacking side?

This myth that you have to battle your way out the division is another fallacy. Look at the best players in this division, the ones you would like in our team - Barnes, Bale, Nugent etc. - all good FOOTBALLERS. Similarly: Reading, Wigan, Man C, Fulham all got up playing good football - not 'total' football, but at least attempting to offer something different. Albion are not top because they can only play one way, pretty, pretty. We can only do ugly, ugly. What is wrong with a bit of variety?

I am not defending every single thing that Bendtner does - simply pointing out that 'attitusde' is not the be all and end all. I am convinced that if he was playing for WBA he would have got a lot of goals for them, as would Jerome.

he may be the wrong player for our 'style' of play (wheras someone like Steve Howard would probably do very well here) but that does not make him petulent etc. After all, on COUNTLESS occassions yesterday he recieved the ball up front and there was nobody at all running from midfield to support him - what is he supposed to do? Hold it up forever? Or take on the entire Baggies back line?

The guy has talent - we should enjoy it while we can - unfortunately talent is not necessarily appreciated down at Blues!!!

We have always loved those players who work hard and battled but its still nice ocassionally to see some class a la Francis and Dugarry

The tall 19-year-old striker has spent the season on loan at Birmingham.

Of all the terms they could of called Nik... Powerful, skilful, quick, keen eye for the goal, the excellent, the much improved... etc.

He gets called 'Tall' :LMAO: albeit true, I'm sure he'll be chuffed with that.
